A COMMUNITY-INITIATED COOPERATIVE
The Farm Fresh Food Hub is a community service co-op spearheaded by Transition Winnipeg and other community stakeholders to connect buyers and sellers of local, sustainably produced food.
PHASE 1: In summer 2016, we launched a weekly outdoor farmers' market. We also run occasional indoor markets that bring together buyers and sellers of local food.
PHASE 2: With sustained interest from industry partners, we hope to develop a storage, aggregation, sales and distribution facility, as well as a year-round market.

Our work is guided by our mission to provide access to an urban market for small producers, while simultaneously encouraging consumers to purchase food that reduces the ecological footprint of our food system. Over the long term, we're committed to:
- Developing an exciting space for producers and consumers to gather and connect
- Supporting local, small producers in their desire to access market opportunities
- Striving towards reducing the ecological footprint of Manitoba’s food system
Currently in Manitoba there is no one place for small to medium scale food producers to sell and distribute their goods. Many grocery stores, institutions and restaurants purchase their supply wholesale from large international supplier rather than local producers because of the inconvenience. A Food Hub would aim to fill this gap in our food economy, making local, fresher food more readily available to Manitobans. A Food Hub would involve storage, aggregation, sales and distribution of regionally-sourced food.
